Historic Ibicencan Finca Restoration, Ibiza
Can Durban
Four Centuries of Ibicencan Heritage, Reimagined
With architectural origins dating back approximately 400 years, Can Durban is a remarkable expression of Ibiza’s enduring rural heritage. Originally built as a traditional working farmhouse, the property was carefully restored to preserve its historic character while introducing a more refined and contemporary way of living.
The dramatic double-height living space was once a traditional drying loft, while the former stables have been transformed into an intimate guest bedroom. Original hand-hewn doors, crafted from local stone pine and Aleppo pine, remain as a testament to the enduring beauty and craftsmanship of traditional Ibicencan architecture.
One of the property’s most distinctive transformations can be found within the original bread oven, once the centre of daily life and now reimagined as a full-sized bathroom. Microcement flooring, a minimal kitchen and a restrained material palette allow the historic stonework, timber and architectural details to remain at the heart of the design.
Can Durban reveals how thoughtful restoration can honour centuries of history while creating a home of warmth, clarity and contemporary ease.
